100 Years, 100 Wahine As we celebrate 100 years of service, we want to recognize the whine who have empowered our work. Today’s honoree is Malia Crain. Malia is a cherished long time member of the Zonta Club of Hanalei along with being on their Board of Directors. The Zonta Club strives to improve the political, educational and professional status of women and girls on Kaua’i and around the world, a mission that Malia is especially passionate about. She spends her tim...e volunteering and advocating for the empowerment of women through planning events, donations, and many other avenues. We asked Malia what the YWCA means to her and she replied, For 10 years I’ve witnessed the staff of the YWCA Shelter provide abused women, who have lost everything, with the tools to walk forward into a promising future. I’m privileged to have played a supportive role alongside the loving, dedicated staff who’ve had such a powerful impact on their lives. Mahalo Malia for the enthusiasm and effort that you put into our community! #100Years100Wahine #OnAMission See more

Our Teen Safe Space support group for Hawai‘i teens, ages 1317, is held on Tuesdays from 4 - 5 pm via Zoom. Teen Safe Space provides support in a safe setting, free from judgment and harassment, and helps youth process their feelings and support one another. The goal of the group is to support teens who may have additional needs outside of their school environment. This would include any teens who may be struggling with bullying, harassment, discrimination, isolation, iden...tity, or many other hardships that teens face. Parental/Guardian consent is required. Group topics will vary, and content of group discussion will be confidential to group members.

Today, on June 25, 1876, a battalion of the 7th Cavalry, led by George Armstrong Custer, was wiped out by an overwhelming force of Lakota, Dakota, Northern Chey...enne, and Arapaho. There are many stories that come from this most famous battle of the Indian Wars. However, the most overlooked account is of the women warriors who fought alongside their male counterparts. Cheyenne Buffalo Calf Road Woman holds the distinction of being the warrior who knocked Custer off his horse, hastening the demise of the over-confident Lt. Colonel. Minnie Hollow Wood, Moving Robe Woman, Pretty Nose (pictured), One-Who-Walks-With-The-Stars, and Buffalo Calf Road Woman were among the more notable female fighters. Pretty Nose fought with the Cheyenne/Arapaho detachment. One-Who-Walks-With-The-Stars (Lakota) killed two soldiers trying to flee the fight. Minnie Hollow Wood earned a Lakota war-bonnet for her participation, a rare honor. Lakota Moving Robe Woman fought to avenge the death of her brother. #WhoTellsTheStoryMatters re-watch AMERICAN HOLOCAUST: WHEN ITS ALL OVER I’LL STILL BE INDIAN - short-listed for an Academy Award (2000) Exclusively on Red Nation Television Network Subscribe today www.rednationtv.com #NativesInChargeOfTheirNarrative

Ex-police officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years today for the murder of George Floyd, but as Floyd’s brother stated, My family has been given a lif...e sentence. While we are grateful for the accountability in this case, MUCH more is needed to hold police accountable.
