Welcome to the 2021 Earth Science on Volcanic Islands (ESVI) REU student cohort to the UH Mnoa campus. Today kicked off the first day of the2021 ESVI REU Program, where 4 local and 7 mainland students will be engaged in independent research projects with SOEST faculty mentors for the next 9 weeks. The REU students will conduct research on-campus for the month of June, and will then continue their research remotely for an additional 5 weeks in July and present their resul...ts remotely at the2021 SURE Symposiumon July 30th. . Summer has begun in Hawaii and so did field season for many of our researchers and students - this weekend was an early start for ESVI REU student Aston Ramos, who studies the hydrology of Pupukea tide pool on Oahu. The 2021 ESVI REU program will host 11 students this summer as they engage in independent research projects with SOEST scientist mentors, investigating volcanological, environmental, and geophysical Earth processes of volcanic islands. .
