This article highlights the ways in which people with disabilities who have recently been involved in programs set up by the Swiss compulsory Disability Insurance (DI) refer to the register of shame in their discourse. It pinpoints three dimensions of this register: social position, social judgment and mirror-effect and shows that while referrals to shame do not constitute a direct challenge of ableist hierarchies, they do displace the meanings attached to disability. Call For Teenage Participants For Zoom Theatre Theatre practitioners and UH grad students Mike Poblete and Kat Rothman are seeking teenagers to participate in a socially distanced theatre project to be rehearsed and then performed over Zoom. Rehearsals will be weekday afternoons throughout the spring, leading up to a performance in June 2021. This project is open to all teenagers aged 14-18 residing in Hawaii; due to the socially distant nature participants who identify as h...aving a physical disability are particularly encouraged to apply. Participants will be guided through devised theatre techniques to create and perform an original theatre piece inspired by life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because devised theater is a specific discipline that incorporates a wide variety of artistic forms no theatre experience is necessary and students will have the option to engage as little or as much as they like, with the option to leave the project at any time. There is no fee to participate. Participants will be asked to complete several questionnaires throughout the process to gather data on the effectiveness of devising theatre over Zoom in this format. To get involved contact [email protected] or click here for more information
