E TE IWI! WATCH, LEARN, TEACH, SHARE, INTENTIONALISE, RISE!! As promised, here is the Hawaiian AND new Mori version of a verse from the Hawaiian mele, K Ha’a...heo E Ku’u Hawai’i, by Hina Wong-Kalu, which we are sharing so you can learn it, gather your own people to chant it to the Mauna, from your own maunga or mountain. The intention behind this, is to uplift the spirits of our Kanaka Maoli whnau through the difficult times they are facing, so feel free to load it up with all your ihi, wehi, wana and mana! We also want to demonstrate just how closely connected our Maori Nation is with Hawaii Nation.. our languages almost identical, to the point we can actually understand each other. This is a waiata we can chant together at rallies regionally, nationally and globally! If you know Kanaka Maoli personally, respectfully ask them if they know it and can teach you the Hawaiian version as this is always the ultimate, to be taught from the source. Perhaps if you are from another Nation, you might want to compose your own version of the verse also - please let us know if you do! You might want to film it too, and post on social media for the world to see, in a stand of solidarity from Aotearoa, or wherever in the word you are. This verse is widely known throughout Hawaii and beyond, and taught by Aunty Pua Case in 2017 to Ngahuia (of Maunga Panekire & Tawhiuau) and Ninakaye (of Maunga whawhe). When Aunty taught it to us, she spoke of it as a mele that is often used on the mauna, and encouraged us to teach it to our own whnau and people so we can use it in our stand for our own maunga. Both her and Kumu Hina gave us permission to create a Maori version, which Greg Koia assisted with. Filmed by Ngahina. If you post it on FB, please tag in this page ‘E T - Stand With Mauna Kea, or message it to us, so we can see it and reshare with our whnau. Here is the first group solidarity video we posted - https://www.facebook.com/ETuStand/videos/488524411963880?s=696676955&v=e&sfns=xmwa Second group solidarity video came the next day from Te Waiora at Waikato Uni - https://www.facebook.com/31871087900/posts/320852852126396 K whakahe’o e Ku’u Hawai’i!
