There's still time to get your ticket to kitty yoga! This month we're offering virtual tickets and a limited number of in-person tickets! You read that right! Nine people will have the chance to come into our facility and participate in an in-person yoga class while our shelter kitties frolic around you! If you can't make it, no sweat! Just get a virtual ticket and at least you can pretend that you're in the room with us. We just ask if you attend in-person that you're ok with being filmed in case a kitty interacts with you. Get your tickets here https://kauaihumanesociety.salsalabs.org/livecatyoga

Snow is a five year old bull terrier. She's very well-behaved, incredibly sweet and very, very gentle. She is very patient and can be shy at first, but warms up quickly. She loves the company of other dogs too! Adopt or foster Snow!

It's kitten season! We just got a bunch of kittens in. If you would like to foster one of these sweet peas please email [email protected]. If you would like to adopt one, email [email protected] or fill out an adoption application on our website at kauaihumane.org. Please know that if you take home a baby under two lbs and/or under two months, we will have you sign a spay/neuter form stating that you will bring in your little love bug when they are old an...d big enough to be fixed. If you would like to make a donation to KHS to care for all of these kittens, visit bit.ly/kittenshowerdonate. If you would like to send us something from our Amazon kitten wishlist, you can find it here bit.ly/amazonkittenwishlist. Mahalo to all of our supporters, volunteers, and adopters!

As we wrap up Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week, we want to thank our humane officers. It’s easy to look at a humane officer as intimidating. It’s also easy to assume the worst when they show up at your door. But, the job is really in the name - helping the community in the most humane way possible. Humane officer Anthony Miller put it this way, We’re not there to take your dog. We’re there to help you out and assist in any way we can to help you comply with the coun...ty of Kauai’s ordinances. The last thing we want to do is have your dog come into our shelter. He said, often, humane officers ask first what the community member needs. Our officers give out free leashes, collars, kennels, tethers, dog houses and have even helped fix fences when someone is in need. We asked our humane officers what they would want the public to know and this is what they said: Microchip your pets. It’s something the dog can’t lose and gives us access to who owns the dog so we can return them and it ultimately keeps animals out of the shelter. The last thing we want to do is have your dog come into our shelter. We have to prioritize emergency calls for the whole island. Sometimes we can be as far west as Kekaha and when we get a call to north shore for a stray loose dog. Most likely we would not be able to get there in time. People get upset that we cannot get there in 15 minutes. I wish we were like the fire department where we had a station in every ahupua’a, but we don’t. If we can be proactive versus reactive towards each other I feel many of these issues can be resolved with much success.
