#MatsunagaInstitute #WhatMovesYou #MondayMood #MondayMotivation #Monday #MotivationMonday #MondayInspiration . Repost @uhmlibrary ---... To celebrate #nationalpoetrymonth2021 and #preservationweek2021 , lets take a closer look at the physical condition of a hand-written poem by Senator Spark M. Matsunaga from our Hawai`i Congressional Papers Collection to raise awareness about some of the collections we care for and to encourage others who care for personal, family, or community collections. At the top of this sheet of paper, note the rust stain from a removed paper clip. High relative humidity (especially in Hawai`i!) causes paper clips and staples to rust easily, which results in staining and degradation of the paper. The rusting paperclip was removed from this sheet to prevent further damage. Along the left side of the sheet is an organic stain. Hand oils transfer easily to absorbent paper, which can result in staining over time. Washing ones hands before handling important documents can reduce the potential for staining. The library received the Matsunaga Papers in 1997 and has since removed rusting fasteners, rehoused the materials in acid-free enclosures and boxes, and maintains the collection in a climate-controlled environment to mitigate additional damage and ensure that these materials are accessible long into the future. Course Spotlight . Summer 2021 || Online Asynchronous || |Summer Session 1 || May 24 - July 2 . PACE 413 "Terrorism"... . This course is designed primarily to introduce students to the basic concepts and questions, major theoretical traditions and perspectives, significant debates, and current topics in the study of security and terrorism. The course has two goals: (a) to provide a systematic review of the relationship between politics, security, and terrorism and (b) to explore how terrorism is framed within the context of the national security state. The constant state of flux present in contemporary societies requires new concepts of peace to be enacted and circulated to deal with terrorism. "Peace" can no longer reside only in the dichotomy of inside/outside, where there is a clear distinction between an "us" and a "them." . Joseph H. Campos II is the Deputy Director of the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services and is an affiliate faculty in the department of political science and Spark M. Matsunaga Institute for Peace at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He has many publications and his most recent book came out in March 2021 entitled "The Fetish of Peace: The Myth of Transformational Peace". .
