Local I'a: A Community Supported Fishery 22.12.2021

Local I’a can be seen from 9th Ave now- after a little girl power and collaboration of a few wahine! . . Ta’ape is represented as it is one of the main reasons we do what we do. It’s an invasive species that needs to be fished and eaten as much as possible, whereas the other two pictured species have historically been overfished- Onaga(red snapper) & Tako(octopus). .... . Knowing a little about your food helps you support the balance of the ecosystem and enjoy our resources mindfully. Native Hawaiians supported the island with no imported resources and had abundance because they harvested and caught sustainably by recognizing seasons. We have much to learn, but are honored to share what we know and provide access directly to local sustainable seafood. #knowthestoryofyourseafood #localia #sustainableseafood #taape #onaga #tako #yellowsubmarine #boattotable See more

Have you tried our Smoked Ta’ape Pate’ yet? It is currently only offered through the Ai Pono Charcuterie board from Dean&Deluca. The board comes with many other locally produced products including other invasive species like Maui venison and wild boar. Visit their website to order yours by 5 PM today for pick up tomorrow. Offered this month at a great deal price thanks to collaboration of our community to promote eating out our invasive species! . . . #eatemtobeatem #hisam2021 #knowthestoryofyourseafood #localia #taape #eatlocal #foodsecurity #sustainability #boattotable #collaboration #togetherwecan #smokedtaape #smokedfish

Akule sashimi. Have you ever tried that? Our customers did last weekend when we had super fresh Akule caught the night before. Getting fish directly from the fishers makes such a difference and provides a quality product time after time. Mahalo to all the local fishers providing fish to our tables! #knowthestoryofyourseafood #localia #boattotable #sustainableseafood #traceable #local #akule #caughtnotbought #sashimi

Ta’ape. A snapper with flaky, white filets just like its cousins Opakapaka, Kale, Gindai, and Onaga. Just a bit smaller in size, but same great taste.. . . . They were introduced to help with overfishing of the other species years and years ago, and have overtaken our reef ecosystems and will continue to do so unless we spread the word that eating them is the way to help! Mahalo @ci_hawaii @chefhuihi @kimi_swimmy @deandelucahawaii and all the others that are helping to promot...e them, especially this month as it is Invasive Species Awareness Month. . . . Eating Ta’ape is eating local and is the most sustainable fish you can eat. It always comes from local fishers no matter where you buy it! #taape #hawaiiinvasivespecies #sustainable #boattotable #localia #knowthestoryofyourseafood #eatemup See more
