One of the two cases identified yesterday, resides in Kapaa, related to travel. After interviewing the patient there was no school, large groups, or businesses at risk that I could identify. Thank you to the patient to allow me to share this information. Hope they have a quick and complete recovery.

A quick note about the difference between the department of health (DOH) contact-tracing and what we are doing on social media for community contact-tracing on Kauai. The DOH has limited resources and only focuses on the high-risk contacts to the infected individual, like family members. So they will notify you if you are identified as a high-risk contact. This is why Verde, the place where the high-risk contact worked, was contacted in my previous example. The community ...contact tracing that I am sharing with the public is aimed at the low-risk situations or potential high-risk situations that the DOH cannot possibly monitor due to resources. So with the Verde example I discussed people who had been their on those days where the worker could have been spreading virus, had he contracted the virus (which they did NOT per the testing that was done). As I noted these risks are very low risk but for some families it may be significant and valuable information that they would like to act on depending on their circumstance. When someone agrees to share their information with me to help the greater good of Kauai I would really urge you not to try to figure out who it is. First, it is of no consequence to you as I mentioned, If you were in contact with them the DOH will call you. Second, you will start to invade on their privacy, and they will not want to share their information. When this happens nobody will want to share and we are left in the dark without any preventative game plan. I would recommend a simple positive note of support to the individual and a huge thank you to them in the comment section. Verde Lihue would like to share their high-risk contact for COVID information.

Message Kapaa Pediatric Patients - We postponed a lot of physicals due to Covid-19 uncertainty. With no new cases in the past month on Kauai, we wanted to get the message out that if you need to come in for any required routine visits like school physicals that there will be no safer time than now.

Kapa'a Pediatrics new office protocol until further notice... 1) For Well Child Checks, we are only scheduling infants under the age of 15 months, mainly for vaccines and growth/development reasons. If either of the caretaker or infant is ill we will reschedule the visit. 2) All visits are limited to one parent/caretaker and one child/infant. No siblings are allowed to come into the office. 3) The parent/caretaker must wear a mask for the duration of the visit.... 4) We apologize but the air condition will be shut off for the first 3 hours of the morning during these Well Child Checks. We understand this may be slightly more uncomfortable but we do not want any central air circulation or air currents that may further spread any possible Covid at this time. 4) With rare exception, all other sick visits will be seen in the parking lot either at your car or under the pop-up tent. 5) For all visits, call us when you get to the parking lot. For Well Checks we will escort you into the office to ensure that you do not touch any door handles. 6) All Kapaa Pediatrics staff will wear a mask the entire time we are seeing any patient.
