Happy Winter Solstice!! Today is the shortest day of the year and the first day of winter! Solstice means sun still. The sun will stop its drift towards the south, reaching its maximum declination. Jupiter and Saturn are the closest they will ever be to one another in our lifetime in tonight’s sky. AND it’s the last night if the Ursid meteor shower!! You can truly enjoy all of the heavens and earth today. Today is a celestial day!!

PERSEVERANCE LANDING IS HAPPENING NOW!!!!

WCC Imaginarium 13.12.2021

A lot of people have been asking about the Christmas star, recently... For the first time since the Middle Ages, Jupiter and Saturn will be very close together in the southwestern sky after sunset on December 21 (Winter Solstice). They will SO close together that they will merge into one bright object! They stay very close together for a few days, at least through to the new year and Mercury will join them around January 9th. SO COOL!! Out in space, the planets aren’t c...lose to each other at all, but from our vantage point here in earth, they will merge together looking like one bright object. This is VERY cool, because this is one of the explanations for what the Magi saw in the sky on their journey to see baby Jesus- like, it hasn’t happened in the winter since then! Only in 2020, I tell ya!! Haha!! I’ll simulate it again this week in the planetarium and fine tune this post. Stay tuned! See more
