Both businesses and workers in Hawaii have disproportionately expensive rents and utilities to pay for. We must unite against the perverse commodification of land and the overreliance on fossil fuels. As we work together, we can strengthen our circular economy: as minimum-wage workers spend their money locally, transitioning to a livable-wage will increase spending on locally available products and services.

When I say Hawaii's elected Democratic leaders are worse than Republicans in other states, this news below is just one example. Yes, Florida is also experiencing a pandemic and a recession, but all those Trump-lovers just voted 2-1 in favor of raising their state's minimum wage to $15/hour. Just a reminder: Hawaii's Democratic Legislature could not even follow through with its pathetic poverty-wage compromise of $13/hour in Hawaii. And it is way more expensive to live in Hawaii than Florida.
