This year, we have a few adjustments for the health and safety of everyone involved. Producers can expect the same level of professionalism, expertise, and care taken in previous years. Entrants will receive cupping reports and feedback from local seasoned coffee professionals and licensed Q Arabic...a Graders. This week's big project? The @hca_coffee cupping competition! This year, the competition received 70 samples from producers across the islands. We've begun the pre-screening round of cupping today and will finish it off tomorrow before sending qualifying samples to licensed Q Graders across the islands. ... Beginning next week, each judge will cup remotely - in their own labs - and we'll deliberate via Zoom as we move along. Luckily enough, each judge just passed their @thecqi Calibration course in our Lab last week! Announcements for the winners will happen at the Hawai'i Coffee Association's annual conference (happening virtual again this year) on Friday, June 25th at 5pm HST. We, at Pacific Coffee Research, are excited and proud to support Mai Movement Hawaii and their campaign Mlama Your Mai this May for Period Poverty Awareness Week (May 24-30). @maimovementhawaii is a locally grown grassroots organization rub by Native Hawaiian sisters that's committed to ending period poverty, or the inability to get period products due to accessibility and financial constraints. All donations raised on each island goes into a community event on May 29t...h to distribute period products right back into the lhui to those who need it most. PCR is hosting a donation drive in our Lab and office this month. While we don't have public hours, please reach out if you'd like to contribute!
