Meet Dani! Dani graduated from the University of Hawai’i - West O’ahu in 2019 with a BA in Social Science, as well as a dual concentration in Psychology and Sociology. She was our writing, psychology, and sociology tutor here at the No’eau Center. Although Dani is currently not working in the social science field, she finds it very rewarding working two jobs. Dani works as an assistant floor manager at a wine bar and a wine specialist at a family-owned wine and s...pirits company in Florida. Both jobs require her to interact with customers and provide wine recommendations, while also closing sales with them. When asked why she chose this career, Dani replied, I have always been interested in wine as a consumer, and the science behind wine making, but I never thought about working with it or become a serious wine connoisseur. I enjoyed the first job so much that I found the second job working as a wine specialist and thought I would dive right in and learn as much as I can about the industry. What Dani enjoys most about her jobs is being able to gain experience and learn new things! She likes to work with wine because she is constantly learning something new everyday. Besides being able to learn new things, she also enjoys the taste of wine and sipping on a glass after a long day at work. One of the challenges she faces working two jobs is how little time she has for herself or her family. She says, You have to put a lot of work into something to be great at it, so the long hours are worth it. A piece of advice that Dani gives to those who are considering the same career pathway is to stay passionate, stay humble, and never stop learning.
