Autonomy exercised by even the youngest child at Montessori School of Maui looks like self-regulation. Doing so means that every day, she moves with care and purpose among those working around her. Her sensitivity to others translates easily to everyone’s growing autonomy for themselves and the collective betterment of the world.

The past months have required us to change. This has brought about heightened stress levels and new routines that afford little normalcy. Aware of this at Montessori School of Maui, we encourage that while summer will be a time to let our attention to routines go, create a routine and stick to it. Remember, our routines provide us comfort and are commonplace in our lives. They can decrease our own as well as our children’s stress levels. So, as you ready yourselves to do new things and embark on new adventures, maintain a level of routine that will ensure you and your loved ones some assemblance of normal and have fun while doing it all.

Motivation is grown intrinsically at Montessori School of Maui because simple acknowledgement is often the only thing offered when work is complete. Research and observation show that even the youngest child grows his interest to do and to challenge himself when he does more things himself, for himself, and to his own satisfaction. And with this growing appreciation of himself, he learns that his work and personal growth are valuable and provide equal currency.

Supporting the emotional well-being of children at Montessori School of Maui is the goal in developing one’s Spiritual Awareness. By affording children opportunities to verbalize and dialogue about their emotions, feelings, and thoughts, they are learning to regulate their thoughts and to better understand themselves.

We’ve educated Global Citizens at Montessori School of Maui since 1978. Doing so has enabled our students to adopt broad perspectives so that everyone is eagerly welcomed to the table where different ideas, viewpoints, and opinions are readily served and consumed with delight.

Academic Preparedness is an integral part of our work at Montessori School of Maui, equal in importance to social, emotional, and physical development also. Attended simultaneously, the child enters a prepared environment that speaks to her, provides for her, and challenges her to think, to conceptualize, and to dream. It is through this process that the whole child emerges, ready and willing to take on whatever comes her way.

Social Responsibility means acting in ways that ensure a meaningful and respectful co-existence for everyone. When a child practices being socially responsible, he remains mindful of others and makes considerations about the affects his actions may have on them, whether within close proximity or at greater distances.
