Keeping a lid nearby as you cook can help extinguish a small grease fire in the kitchen. Simply cover the pot or pan with the lid to smother the fire. Safety and fire prevention at home starts with you. #fireprevention #firesafety #prevention #safety #safetyfirst #cookingsafety

Thinking of boating, sailing, kayaking or paddling this weekend ? Have you made sure your safety gear is ready ? Remember to have a float plan that you can communicate to someone who is on shore, and you can check back in with to tell them you are in off the water safely. #safetyfirst #haveaplan #prevention #WaterSafety

Getting distracted and forgetting that you have something cooking on the stove or in the oven can lead to a fire in your kitchen. To help prevent this, set a timer to remind you to check your meal as it cooks to ensure that it doesn't overcook and burn to start a fire. #firesafety #cookingsafety #fireprevention #prevention #safety #safetyfirst

Having your "go bag" ready and available at a moment's notice is a crucial part of your evacuation plan in the event of a disaster.

The surf remains elevated on multiple shorelines of Maui County. Please use caution and good judgement when entering the water. If you are caught in a current: do not try to swim against it. Swim across the current until you are free of it's pull. Then swim to shore. Trying to swim in through a rip current will only exhaust you and make it less likely that you will get back to shore safely. Follow the instructions of Maui Ocean Safety Officers and heed the warnings post...ed on signs at the beach. When in doubt, Don't go out ! #safetyfirst #winterinhawaii #safety #prevention #maui

Children should be kept away from the stove while it is in use. Turn the handles of pots and pans inwards so they can not be knocked off or pulled off by accident. Accidents in the kitchen are a leading cause of burns for both keiki and adults. Take the time to be safe. #safetyfirst #safety #cookingsafety #IAFFSafetyTips #kitchensafety

Maui County Fire Department 03.10.2021

Use extreme caution around the shorelines of Maui County. Large waves can sweep across beaches, rocky shore lines and seawalls. This can pull people into the water, creating a life threatening situation. Heed the warnings of Ocean Safety Officers and avoid going in the water if you are not extremely experienced in large surf conditions. When in doubt, Don't go out !... #safetyfirst #beachsafety #winterinhawaii #maui #prevention

Keep yourself safe. Keep other drivers safe. Keep highway workers and emergency responders safe. Put down your phone while you are driving. When you are using your phone and don't have your eyes on the road-you put everyone at risk. #highwaysafety #safetyfirst #safety #putyourphonedown

Overloaded outlets, frayed power cords and improperly used extension cords are all potential causes of home fires. Take the time to check your home and see if you are elevating your risk of a fire. Closing your bedroom door at night buys you time in the event of a fire in your home. By closing the door, you keep toxic smoke, as well as heat and flames out of the room. That can be the difference that gives you the time to escape safely. Make closing your bedroom door-and your keiki's bedroom doors-a part of your nightly routine. #firesafety #prevention #safetyfirst #fire #IAFFSafetyTips
