March 12, 2021 at 5:45 PM The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui in Maui County until 845 PM HST. * At 546 PM HST, radar showed that heavy rainfall continues over... central and west Maui. Rainfall has also moved into the southeastern slopes of Haleakala from Ulupalakua to Hana. Rain rates were 1 to 2 inches in showers rapidly moving toward the northeast. https://mauicounty.gov/AlertCenter.aspx

Reports are coming in about traffic signals being impacted by the heavy rain. Motorists are advised to treat malfunctioning traffic signals as a FOUR WAY STOP and to drive with caution through the intersection. If possible, stay off the roads and remain indoors unless evacuation orders are issued.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Maui in Maui County... * Until 1130 PM HST. * At 836 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain falling over Maui. The heaviest rain was falling over the southeast slopes of Haleakala, Hana, and portions of the West Maui slopes at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Area streams, including Oheo Gulch are experiencing rapid rises in water levels. Flash flooding is occurring or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. * This warning includes the entire island of Maui. This warning may need to be extended beyond 1130 PM HST if flooding persists. This Flash Flood Warning replaces the previously issued Flood Advisory that was in effect for The island of Maui in Maui County. FLASH FLOOD...RADAR INDICATED Recommended actions Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown.
