Mayor Victorino announces Governor’s approval of rules that allow most businesses to reopen June 1 Mayor Michael Victorino announced today that Gov. David Ige approved Maui County’s updated Public Health Emergency Rules to allow most businesses and services to reopen starting Monday, June 1. We are reopening Maui County cautiously and safely, Mayor Michael Victorino said. While new COVID-19 cases continue to remain low, everyone needs to do their part to follow social dist...ancing and sanitization practices, so we can maintain the good position we’re in today. The updated rules are available on the County of Maui’s website at MauiCounty.gov. It contains health and safety modifications that businesses need to follow to reopen and operate. Unfortunatley we at the Maui Crafts Guild must not reopen until the tourists are allowed to come to Maui.

COVID-19 QUARANTINE EXEMPTION REQUESTS GO DIGITAL Posted on Sep 18, 2020 in News, Press Release HONOLULU In an effort to make the quarantine exemption process easier and more efficient, the State Office of Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), developed a new web-based form which goes live on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020 Previously those seeking exemptions, such as critical medical or infrastructure workers had to communicate with, and provide information to, the State via ema...ils. The new online form and submission system will mean more efficient interactions with exemption seekers, better data gathering and access for decision makers. Currently, exempt travelers will still have to provide an e-mail approval documenting exempt status at State airports. Work is already underway to synchronize the exemption digital platform with Hawai‘i’s SafeTravels platform for a more integrated and seamless experience. This applies to trans-Pacific travel and not interisland as each county has its own exemption rules and process. Before the digital system is active, applicants can still submit their requests by email to [email protected]. Any requests submitted before September 19, 2020 will be processed via email in the usual course. People seeking exemptions are asked not to submit duplicate exemptions requests via email and the digital system, as that may delay processing.

Aloha! Since we have several new followers, I want to reintroduce myself and let you learn a bit about me. I'm Debra Lumpkins and I have been a member of the Maui Crafts Guild since 2013. I practice a traditional Japanese technique of printing fish known as gyotaku. Originally used by fishermen to record their catches, fish printing has become an art form of its own. It is a way for me to perpetuate Hawaii's fishing culture and traditions through my art. My hope is that my a...rtwork bring awareness and appreciation for Hawaii's most vulnerable resource. All of my fish are caught locally using sustainable fishing practices and a portion from each sale is donated to local organizations working to restore and maintain healthy reefs and native fish populations. This photo is of an original soldierfish, known locally as menpachi. It is a native fish of Hawaii. I love its expressive big eyes and beautiful scales. Created using sumi ink and imprinted onto handmade washi paper. It is available for purchase on the Maui Crafts Guild web site. With galleries closed and art shows cancelled here on Maui, I think I speak for all of the artists at the Maui Crafts Guild when I say "mahalo" to all of our supporters who buy art from artists-owned co-ops like the Maui Crafts Guild. We appreciate it! We miss our friends from the mainland and we hope to see you soon when we can all be safe and healthy.
