I had suspended my services during the beginning of the Shelter in place. However I kept getting phone calls from people that couldn’t shop for themselves or were afraid to and I was feeling extremely sick to my stomach saying no to these people. So today I decided to start at my services again after receiving a few calls yesterday. My very first order was for a woman who was supposed to leave her list at 8 o’clock last night. I never received her list until I woke up this mo...rning and I had already excepted several other orders so I had a tight schedule. I looked at her list and it was so outrageously detailed and I knew that I was setting myself up for failure to except this order. So I called the woman and explain to her that while she may not have been in the grocery stores lately or watch the news That there was no way I could make her order to the exact specifications that she had written.We had a bit more of a conversation and she said that there were some items on the list that were absolute no substitutions and that she had written that on the list. I told her that I would call for a few things but I could not call her for the whole entire list but I would do my best. I also gave her the option to opt out because I told her in 10 years of being in business I’ve never seen a list that was as stringent as hers even when times were not as tough as they are in the grocery stores right now. She asked me to please please go ahead and get her order that she was sure if I had good common sense and I quote her on that. But I could surely get her order right. I told her that I had been in the food service industry since I was 15 and that I could generally make fairly good substitutions that most of my clients have always been happy with. When I arrived at her house with the groceries I had packed them extremely light was only a few items in each bag and I went to leave them at her door as discussed because I am not going into anyone’s house at this time. She open the door and insisted that I bring them in the kitchen against my better judgment I did go ahead and take them a few steps into her kitchen and leave. Well needless to say I should’ve listen to my InterVoice when I saw her list because now she is complaining and saying that I did a really bad job and that I wasn’t professional and that she wants me to come there and pick up some of the items and return them to the grocery store. This is how it began, I return to delivering groceries. It’s very disheartening when you’re leaving your own family and the safety of your home to go out and try and help someone and they act like this is terribly disrespectful and it actually hurts my heart. But I can sell myself by saying there are so many other people that are truly grateful and kind. See more
