Kaua'i Food Forest

The Seneca Effect attributed to Lucius Annaeus Seneca who wrote that "increases are of sluggish growth, but the way to ruin is rapid." Our question is, can an ...economic model that is not based in regenerative, sustainable production truly exist. Here are two graphs that question whether we can go forward with our current methods of food production or even go back to our old ways that sustained significantly smaller human populations thousands of years ago. This is not another attempt at 'preaching to the choir' nor is it another "run for the hills! We are all doomed!" message. Now that we are sending robots to Mars as our life support system here on earth begins to wobble one must ask some serious questions regarding our current economic system. One graph models the increase in production over time followed by a sudden collapse as natural resources decline and pollution accumulates. The other graph shows the increase in human population over thousands of years. Some of the more recent increase in human population can be attributed to advent of the 'green revolution' as we began growing crops with chemical inputs. At the same time we began to accelerate the loss of natural resources and exponentially increase pollution and chemical contamination. We seriously believe that any economic models that do not take into account the remediation of our waste stream and its effects on our survival are, well.. not worth consideration.
