Kaua‘i County Council 23.12.2021

NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK APRIL 11-16, 2021 The Kaua‘i County Council recognizes April 11-16, 2021 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.... National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week was established in 1981, in honor of the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to the world’s citizens. Telecommunications personnel respond to emergencies and are crucial to the mobilization of police officers, firefighters, and paramedics when people need them most. Without qualified, hard-working dispatchers and other professionals, first responders would be lacking the information needed to act quickly during a crisis. Our telecommunications personnel literally become the difference between life and death for many callers. In addition to serving the public seeking assistance, telecommunications personnel help protect and keep safe the first responders themselves, by delivering accurate information about events unfolding at the scene, and then monitoring their activities by radio and providing continuing assistance. Telecommunications personnel excel far beyond their technical training to serve as compassionate, understanding, and professional lifelines of support, information, and hope. The Kaua‘i Police Department is fortunate to have nineteen (19) such heroes, who dispatch appropriate emergency services in response to crisis situations, and are specially trained to offer life-saving assistance over the phone when needed: Heather, Ginger, Nellie Buano, Deborah, Christina, Alyssa, Amber, Alyssa, Sarah, Johanna, Kristin, Stephanie, Alohilani, Kathy, Souci, Daphne, Donn, Lavina, and Ashley. The Kaua‘i County Council extends its heartfelt appreciation and commends Kaua‘i’s telecommunications personnel, who sacrifice all hours of the day and night, year-round, to ensure the safety of our community.
