A recent systematic review by Arnold, et al, titled The Effect of Timing of Physical Therapy for Acute Low Back Pain on Health Services Utilization demonstrates research to support our company’s belief of Physical Therapy as a good primary option for acute low back pain This systematic review, which is considered the highest level of evidence in scientific literature, concludes that early Physical Therapy for low back pain may reduce healthcare service utilization (eg.... MRIs, surgeries), cost, opioid use, and improve health care efficiency It is in our mission to educate the public, including patients, providers, and insurance companies, regarding the value of our profession. If you share our views, feel free to pass this information onto your loved ones! Currently, we are working on an evidence based presentation to HMSA regarding the benefits of direct access for PTs! It is our goal to improve public policy, keeping up with current literature while focusing on what’s best for patient care. If you’re not confused, you don’t understand what’s going on -Charlie Munger The blind men and the elephant is analogous to how various clinicians may have different perspectives on your physical ailments such as back pain ... -The family doctor may see your back pain as an inflammatory issue, requiring pain medication , muscle relaxants, and/or anti-inflammatories -the surgeon may see a pinched nerve or disc protrusion, requiring surgical intervention or injections -the PT may see strength or mobility deficits, wanting you to exercise more -the chiropractor may see your back as misaligned, requiring periodic adjustments -the acupuncturist may see a disruption of energy flow, requiring stimulation of meridian points -the massage therapist may feel tight muscles, requiring massage for relaxation For something like treating back pain, a great clinician is not blinded by his/her own education, experience, or ego Rather, a great clinician will be confident in his/her own assessment, while being respectful and open to other possibilities Do you have a great clinician? #paineducation #lowbackpain #holisticarept #physicalhealth #physicaltherapy #healthcare #healthcareworkers #healthcareheroes #movehealthyagain #collaboration #patienteducation #patientfirst #neckpain #backpainrelief

piriformis syndrome Piriformis syndrome is a neuromuscular disorder that is caused when the piriformis muscle compresses the sciatic nerve. (See slide 2) Aka...#paininthebutt Symptoms usually occur as pain shooting down the posterior buttocks, not far past the knee. (Slide 3) If symptoms shoot past the knee down to the foot/ankle, you need to look at the lumbar spine for differential diagnoses such as a herniated disc or intervertebral foraminal stenosis. #goseeaP...T Piriformis syndrome can be successfully treated through some easy exercises and self myofascial release techniques!#soeasybrah The first two piriformis/gluteal stretches will decrease the tension it places on the sciatic nerve. Hold for a minimum of 3 sets of 30 seconds/day. The bridging exercise will strengthen the gluteals, which will provide cushion to the sciatic nerve as well as facilitate the gliding of the sciatic nerve along the nerve bed travelling across the piriformis muscle. #babygotback#junkinthetrunk Self myofascial release techniques using a lacrosse ball and foam roller are also shown. These techniques work best when putting the piriformis muscle in a stretched position, hence the crossing of the leg while gently moving the hips across the tennis ball/foam roller. #hurtssogood #backpain #piriformissyndrome #holisticarept #physicaltherapy #movementismedicine #sciatica #sciaticarelief #movehealthyagain #piriformisstretch #sciaticasucks See more
