You will not want to miss this Sunday's postlude by our organist Michael Springer. Michael Springer writes, "This Sunday's postlude, Easter Exultation is based on the Easter hymn tune, Victory commonly sung to the text, The Strife is O’er, The Battle Done. Michael Springer composed the music himself, and the dedication reads, In loving memory of Kenneth W. Staton, a true friend and mentor. For those who don't know, Ken Staton, who recently passed away, was the choi...r director at FUPC from 1974-1981. Under his leadership, the FUPC Chancel Choir sang special anthems every Sunday from September through May. He helped FUPC establish the singer scholars program by hiring music majors from the University of Hawaii at Hilo Music Department to help fill out the voicing of our choir. Michael Springer was hired in 1976 as a singer scholar and in 1978, Ken recommend FUPC to hire Michael as the organist. With Ken's vision, FUPC, with its excellent acoustics, pipe organ, and piano, became known in the community as a perfect and much desired venue for musical events. A hui hou, Maestro Staton. This Sunday Pastor Chris delivered a message titled If Jesus Welcomed All, Why Can't We?. His sermon is based off the Scripture from the Book of Acts 8:26-40 (NRSV), where the Apostle Philip comes across an Ethiopian eunuch returning from temple worship who is desiring to know more about the Scripture he is reading. His sermon courageously explores what it means to welcome and accept all people into our community, particularly, in the radical and unconditional ways Jesus did. If you have been spiritually fed by this message please consider making a donation or tithe to support the ministry and work of First United Protestant Church.
