My @tsutomulures Half Head story, The eve of Christmas had me with a full day charter a few miles outside X buoy on a very quiet ocean so far. I needed some fresh fish bad to take over to our annual Christmas blowout with our beautiful o’hana. All of a sudden the right rigger goes and I see a little Mahi Mahi making futile jumps against the heavily set drag of the Shimano 130, then another one jumping in for the corner lure. Hmm, what is this? So I tell the crew to reel the... lures in while I rig a live Opelu for show and tell time . Right then I see a algae covered box just under the waters surface off the port side . Not too big, not too exciting. That explains why only a couple Mahis. I look at the depth recorder screen to hopefully see if there’s something more to it underneath. A nice boomerang !! As I turn to explain what I’m seeing to my guest, the half head dangling off the starboard rigger tip, just in the water at idle speed detonates ! We are on ! A 80# Yellowfin Tuna, what a gift ! This was a great charter I got to spend a day and a half with. Started off Rachelle, Ruby and Josh booking a half day on a beautiful break in the rain. Bait bit well and so did some critters on the bottom! They had such a good time that they booked a full day a couple days later . Rachelle had been hearing the story of this marlin her Dad caught and how great it was her whole life and she really wanted her son, Josh to have that experience and low and behold ( where did that come from ) fate lined up with her lucky stars! Paddy Paddy, what a tigress!! When she was nominated to be first angler, she got in the chair and waited . The rain , the waves and the sea sickness couldn’t take her down ! Paddy, do you want my rain jacket ? No, just give me a bucket . Damn I thought, we need a fish bad! Then a big bull ripped through the water and took down the rigger! After a quick burst it came off. F...!! She was ready with the harness clips in her hand like a pair of revolvers ! ... Some Booby birds came together, ok we got this, fired out a couple Opelu and got a nice pass.
