East-West Center 23.12.2021

Happy P’ah! The Leadership Program wants to start a new series on our social media and we need the help of our alumni! On Thursday's we are going to be throwi...ng it back to the past by highlighting our alumni's favorite experiences during their time at the East-West Center. Whether it was going on a site visit, getting to know other participants in Hale Mnoa, or spending time in Burns Hall, share with us your favorite memories you had during the program that we can share on our Facebook and Instagram. This week we’re kicking it off with a memory from Scott Coates, APLP Generation 11 alumni, on his time spent on campus during the program. He says, It's a simple thing, but I often think about sitting on the grass under a tree, between Hale Manoa and Burns Hall. I live in Bangkok and the grass is typically quite sharp here, whereas the grass on the EWC campus was always soft, cool, and nice to sit on while reading APLP readings and doing homework. There was also the nice interactions of chatting with APLP and EWC fellows as they'd walk by. It was a great spot to enjoy the outdoors, get some fresh air, catch-up on class work, and connect with fellows and cohort at the same time. What fantastic memories!. Send in your favorite memories or experiences so we can highlight them here on Facebook and Instagram: https://forms.gle/GTVCqYCFMykTPsdy5! #ewc_leadership

I hope this experience inspires other young Pacific Islanders to pursue STEM fields and higher education, so that they can serve as role models for the next generations. Congratulations to EWC alumna Nicole Yamase (Graduate Degree Fellow, '16), PhD student, Marine Biology Graduate Program, University of Hawaii at Manoa, the 1st Pacific Islander to voyage to the "deepest part of the Earth," the Challenger Deep! https://www.hawaii.edu///ocean-deepest-point-grad-student/
