Summer is finally here and the Patsy T. Mink Center is excited to announce that they are now accepting applications for the 2021 Girls’ Summit Youth Summer Program at YWCA Kokokahi in Kaneohe! The inspiring week-long day program for girls entering Grades 6 8, explores the themes of sense of self, sense of place, inner power and creativity. Girls will participate in interactive sessions in Yoga & Mindfulness, Creative Reading & Writing, CPR Education, Self Defense & Awarenes...s, Financial Management Tips, and Advocacy. Today marks the anniversary of the passage of Title IX. This pivotal piece of legislation, co-introduced by the late Hawai'i Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink and signed in 1972, opened doors for gender equity in schools, sports and more. Hawai'i Senator Mazie K. Hirono and California Congresswoman Doris Matsui reintroduced today the bicameral Patsy T. Mink and Louise M. Slaughter Gender Equity in Education Act (GEEA). This legislation, endorsed by YWCA USA, would provide additiona...l resources, training, and technical assistance to combat harassment and discrimination in education.
