There was a impressive turnout with students from the QUT Masters course; and clinical physicists coming from the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and even Rockhampton (over 500 km away) Discussions continued over drinks at the Normanby.

PRIMPS 21

PRIMPS 21 will be held on the 3rd March, from 3-5PM, at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Education Centre. We already have registered presentations from RBWH and BTS, but it would be great to get updates from as many centres as possible. So if you have been doing some work and want to share it with your peers or get a discussion started, please let us know when you RSVP your attendance with the branch secretary, Emma Spelleken. The flyer for the event is available here.

After PRIMPS we will be migrating to the Normanby Hotel for some lively scientific discussion.

ACPSEMQ AGM & PRIMPS 20

The ACPSEM QLD Branch AGM will once again be combining with the final PRIMPS of the year in 2016. This year, PRIMPS 20 and the AGM will be held at GO Lounge, Greenslopes, on Friday December 2nd. See the attached flyer for the event timetable.

The 2016 ACPSEM QLD branch AGM will run from 2 – 2:30pm, and will include election of the 2017 ACPSEM QLD branch committee. All members are invited to attend the AGM. The AGM will be followed by PRIMPS 20, 2:30 – 3:30pm.

All members and guests will have free, exclusive access to all board games at GO Lounge between 2 – 5pm. Before you land on Mayfair one too many times, the festivities will continue on to Stones Corner Hotel.

We hope you can all join us to help celebrate another year of medical physics.

Please RSVP presentations and attendance to Bess Sutherland at secretary@acpsemq.org.au.

PRIMPS 19 recap

The Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital hosted the 19th PRIMPS meeting on the 6th May. The event began with presentations from Samuel Peet, Orrie Dancewicz and Jonathan Lambert; followed by a show-and-tell session featuring old equipment from both the RBWH and beyond. The afternoon also involved a tour of the Nuclear Medicine department was hosted by Dr. Matthew Griffiths; and a session on the TomoTherapy system hosted by Steven Sylvander.

PRIMPS 19

PRIMPS19

PRIMPS 19 will be held on the 6th May, from 3PM onwards, at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

The meeting will begin with short presentations, followed by a ‘show & tell’ featuring retired equipment from our archives. Feel free to bring along items.

Following the success of PRIMPS 18, we will once again hold tours. Matthew Griffith will host a tour of the Nuclear Medicine department (including the cyclotron) and Steven Sylvander will host a practical session on the TomoTherapy system.

Please RSVP your attendance, presentation interest and/or interest in participating in the tours to the ACPSEM Queensland branch secretary. All are welcome to attend!

A flyer is available here.

PRIMPS 18 Recap

The Princess Alexandra Hospital hosted the 18th PRIMPS meeting on the 11th March, featuring presentations from Scott Crowe, Samuel Peet, Katrina Biggerstaff and George McGill. These presentations were followed by a tour of the Molecular Imaging Department, the home of the first PET-MRI technology in the southern hemisphere; and the Radiation Oncology Department, the home of Queensland’s only Gamma Knife treatment system.

PRIMPS 17 Recap

The final Progress and Research in Medical Physics (PRIMPS) meeting for the year was held on the 27th November, following the branch AGM. The event, which was well attended, was held at the Queensland Maritime Museum. Discussions continued on at the Ship Inn after the event.

The meeting started with presentations from Scott Crowe and Rebecca Murry before a popular poster session. Poster authors included Andre Asena, Katrina Biggerstaff, Diana Binny, Paul Charles, Scott Crowe, Tanya Kairn, Aleksandra Kali, Pat O’Connor, Patrick Stevenson, Steven Sylvander, Hassan Albarakati, Rami Alharbi, Alanood Alshamsi, and Deborah Tout; with the latter 4 having their posters printed by the college.

Tim Ireland was elected as chair of the Queensland Branch for 2016 at the AGM, with Katrina Biggerstaff elected to the vice chair role. This was the last AGM for current chair Paul Charles, who has done a magnificent job in the position since 2014.

See you next year!

PRIMPS 17 and ACPSEMQ AGM

This year the ACPSEM QLD Branch AGM will combine with PRIMPS 17 to make one big ACPSEM QLD Super Social! This will be held at the Queensland Maritime Museum (just next to the Goodwill Bridge in South Brisbane for those unfamiliar with the neighbourhood) on Friday November 27th,  see the flyer below for the event timetable.

All members and guests will have free access to the museum from 1.30 until 4.30pm when festivities will move on to The Ship Inn, Southbank. The 2015 ACPSEMQ branch AGM will run 2.30pm – 3pm, and will include the election of the 2016 ACPSEMQ branch committee. All members are invited to attend the AGM.

PRIMPS 17 will include a presentations session as usual, and for the first time a poster session! This is an opportunity to display any posters that you’ve make for conferences (or just for fun) and have a chat about them to colleagues in an informal setting. To celebrate, the ACPSEMQ branch would like to print your posters, for free! To be eligible for free printing, you must submit your poster in final A1 pdf format by 20th November. The best 5 posters will be chosen by the committee and printing will be arranged for you free of charge. Successful authors will be advised by Monday 23rd November. All unsuccessful competition applicants are still encouraged to arrange their own printing and to bring their poster along for display at PRIMPS 17.

All members and guests are invited to then join in the festivities as the Qld branch celebrates another successful year in the land of medical physics from 4.30pm at The Ship Inn, Southbank.

PRIMPS17 v3

PrIMPS 16

PrIMPS 16 has been organised for June 5th, from 3-5PM, at the sparkling Translational Research Institute (TRI) Australia, near the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

This PrIMPS will be an open event, where members within the TRI building have been invited to attend. PrIMPs 16 will therefore have some presentations introducing Radiation Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics to non-medical physicists. This is a rare opportunity for medical physicists to tour a leading medical research and biopharmaceutical facility, and perhaps more excitingly, form some new partnerships and collaborations.

All are welcome to attend the presentations, however RSVP for a tour of the facility is mandatory as space is limited. Members will be given priority. A flyer is available here. RSVP to: Dr Katrina Biggerstaff.
