We already have registered presentations from RBWH and BTS, but it would be great to get updates from as many centres as possible. So if you have been doing some work and want to share it with your peers or get a discussion started, please let us know when you RSVP your attendance with the branch secretary, Emma Spelleken. The flyer for the event is available here.

After PRIMPS we will be migrating to the Normanby Hotel for some lively scientific discussion.

PRIMPS 18 Recap

The Princess Alexandra Hospital hosted the 18th PRIMPS meeting on the 11th March, featuring presentations from Scott Crowe, Samuel Peet, Katrina Biggerstaff and George McGill. These presentations were followed by a tour of the Molecular Imaging Department, the home of the first PET-MRI technology in the southern hemisphere; and the Radiation Oncology Department, the home of Queensland’s only Gamma Knife treatment system.

PRIMPS 17 Recap

The final Progress and Research in Medical Physics (PRIMPS) meeting for the year was held on the 27th November, following the branch AGM. The event, which was well attended, was held at the Queensland Maritime Museum. Discussions continued on at the Ship Inn after the event.

The meeting started with presentations from Scott Crowe and Rebecca Murry before a popular poster session. Poster authors included Andre Asena, Katrina Biggerstaff, Diana Binny, Paul Charles, Scott Crowe, Tanya Kairn, Aleksandra Kali, Pat O’Connor, Patrick Stevenson, Steven Sylvander, Hassan Albarakati, Rami Alharbi, Alanood Alshamsi, and Deborah Tout; with the latter 4 having their posters printed by the college.

Tim Ireland was elected as chair of the Queensland Branch for 2016 at the AGM, with Katrina Biggerstaff elected to the vice chair role. This was the last AGM for current chair Paul Charles, who has done a magnificent job in the position since 2014.

See you next year!

PRIMPS 17 and ACPSEMQ AGM

This year the ACPSEM QLD Branch AGM will combine with PRIMPS 17 to make one big ACPSEM QLD Super Social! This will be held at the Queensland Maritime Museum (just next to the Goodwill Bridge in South Brisbane for those unfamiliar with the neighbourhood) on Friday November 27th,  see the flyer below for the event timetable.

All members and guests will have free access to the museum from 1.30 until 4.30pm when festivities will move on to The Ship Inn, Southbank. The 2015 ACPSEMQ branch AGM will run 2.30pm – 3pm, and will include the election of the 2016 ACPSEMQ branch committee. All members are invited to attend the AGM.

PRIMPS 17 will include a presentations session as usual, and for the first time a poster session! This is an opportunity to display any posters that you’ve make for conferences (or just for fun) and have a chat about them to colleagues in an informal setting. To celebrate, the ACPSEMQ branch would like to print your posters, for free! To be eligible for free printing, you must submit your poster in final A1 pdf format by 20th November. The best 5 posters will be chosen by the committee and printing will be arranged for you free of charge. Successful authors will be advised by Monday 23rd November. All unsuccessful competition applicants are still encouraged to arrange their own printing and to bring their poster along for display at PRIMPS 17.

All members and guests are invited to then join in the festivities as the Qld branch celebrates another successful year in the land of medical physics from 4.30pm at The Ship Inn, Southbank.

25th Symposium recap

The 25th ACPSEM Queensland branch symposium was held on the 28th August, 2015, at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The day started with the 2nd ACPSEMQ winter school on introducing new technology in the clinic. Dr. Jonathan Sykes spoke on the topic before the DIMPs and ROMPs split up to attend workshops. The DIMPs visited the new PET/MR at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and enjoyed presentations from Prof. Ken Miles, Dr. Anders Rodell and Tale Liiv. The ROMPs split into groups for a series of commissioning challenges, where they were asked how they would implement: SRS with the GammaKnife (with Katrina Biggerstaff), SBRT with the Vero (with Scott Crowe), proton therapy (with Paul Charles), and MR linacs (with John Shakeshaft).

The symposium began after lunch with the invited speakers Dr. Jonathan Sykes and Prof. Dale Bailey. The proferred presentations started after afternoon tea, with Ben Perrett and Mikey Bernado awarded the Symposium prizes for best presentations, while Scott Crowe won the ‘best kept to time’ prize.

Tim Ireland was awarded the Bob Fitchew award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the profession, both in terms of physics support at the Gold Coast University Hospital, and his many contributions to the branch.

25th ACPSEMQ Symposium

The 25th ACPSEM Queensland branch symposium will be held on the 28th August, 2015, at the Russell Strong Auditorium, Princess Alexandra Hospital. The Winter School, introduced last year, will also be returning. The theme for the day is “Future Innovations and Healthcare Technology.”

Winter School
