Our participants and staff enjoyed a visit this week to "The Most Charming Cacao Farm in America, where they learned about the process of growing cacao and making chocolate. 21 Degrees Estate is a family-owned boutique farm located in Kahalu’u, on the beautiful windward side of Oahu. This area was known to Native Hawaiians as the breadbasket of Oahu with its rich and fertile lands, from the serene waters of Kaneohe Bay and rising to the breathtaking heights of the Ko’ol...au Mountains. 21 Degrees Estate strives to be the most charming cacao farm in America, with its spectacular vista and showcasing not only hundreds of cacao trees but also numerous examples of Hawaii’s natural beauty in native trees and tropical flowers. They also have adorable goats and dogs. The name 21 Degrees Estate refers to the location of Hawaii, which sits about 20 degrees north of the equator, right on the periphery of the cacao tree's cultivation range. Fast forward nearly 200 years from the Hawaiian monarch's first cacao trees, Hawaii is now the only state in America that commercially grows cacao.

Our culinary arts learning activity station is a big hit among our day program participants. We now have the station fully supplied with equipment and ingredients thanks to a grant from Friends of Hawaii Charities. Today’s menu included pizza, cheese stuffed croissants and Oreo stuffed croissants.

Our day program participants enjoyed making pizzas today in our new air fryers purchased with a recent grant from Friends of Hawai’i Charities, which funded the start-up equipment and supplies for our culinary learning station.
