FROM CTA NEWSLETTER: The DOH Tuberculosis Control Branch has become aware that the COVID-19 vaccine could produce false results on Tuberculosis (TB) tests due to an ingredient in the COVID-19 vaccine. As a result, the TB Branch advises against TB tests for those individuals receiving the COVID-19 vaccine for four (4) weeks following the second dose of the vaccine. Therefore, the TB Branch and OHCA will delay the requirement found at Section 100.1-9(b), 11-800-21(a)(E), 11-80...0-41(b)(5)(C)(ii), 11-800-41(b)(c)(7), 11-800-41(f)(1) , Hawaii Administrative Rules (HAR). This delay period applies to care givers, residents, and persons in the home who are required to have annual TB clearances, and is for the period ending December 31, 2021. The delay does not apply to persons who did not receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and cannot show evidence of receiving both doses. Individuals must obtain TB clearance immediately following the delay period. If urgent admission is required, a chest x ray can be substituted for a skin test during this delay period. As of 2/25/21, CVS has administered 3,037 1st doses and 54 2nd doses via retail clinics in addition to 13.7K doses via LTC clinics. So, they were able to get through over 3,000 75+ through this system out of 4400 appointments that were available in the initial wave. Unfortunately, CVS stated that only 55% of appointments were booked during Week 1 of in-store clinics. They then re-opened appointments for 2 days to try to fill those spots, but similarly saw low appointment upt...ake. Yesterday 2/25 at approximately 6am EST they opened 7K new appointments just for 75+. As of 6am EST today only 1,120 of those appointments have been booked, which is 17% of total appointments. Every other state is seeing >90% of appointments booked. We think there may be a glitch in their system that had it closed shortly this morning, but it should be open now. Appointments can be booked online, or through their call center: https://www.cvs.com/immunizations/covid-19-vaccine The CVS/Longs rep shared this: "It’s critical that people understand they cannot walk in or call the local store for appointments, and must book their appointment online. I wouldn’t want to create frustration or confusion for people if they try to schedule appointments through the local store. For those without internet access they can use our call center, but we are still working to get confirm that live agents can be made available on the right operating hours to support Hawaii. I should caveat that our call center agents use the same digital scheduler, so it is not faster to necessarily call in, it’s truly a solution for those who cannot access our digital tools."
