Ka P Lea o Hallii is a new series that the Hawaiian Theatre Program is debuting this semester where we will be showcasing new works by Knaka Maoli Theatre artists in honor of Hallii, an alii of Niihau and Kauai who was a celebrated patron of the arts. Ka P Lea o Hallii is an extension of our previous guest lecture series, Ka Unulau o Hallii, in which we featured esteemed Kumu Hula Kealii Reichel, Keawe Lopes, Kekuhi Kanakaole, Kaumakaiwa Kanakaole, Kalani A...kana, Kaponoai Molitau and Aulii Mitchell as well as local Kanaka Maoli artist Meleana Meyer and the world-renowned father of Mori language revitalization, Sir Tmoti Karetu. This second installment of Ka P Lea o Hallii will feature our papa Hula Kii, THEA 478. These hula were developed as mid-term projects focused on retelling moolelo and incorporating a variety of hula kii practices and conventions. We will present a great variety of hula kii, from more modern hula with hand held kii in the Nona Beamer fashion, to decorated shells and gourds playing puppets and of course the more traditional hand held and wood carved kii. Join us for another night celebrating new works!--
