Printmaking: Spot the Difference by Upper Elementary: Gr. 4-6 Students learned the process of relief printmaking by creating a design and carving it on a form plate. Next, they used a brayer tool to roll up ink and placed the print on paper. The process was full of trial and error and students had to find the solutions of how to make two full prints and one ghost print (lighter value). Manoa Falls - Emphasis on scale, overlapping, and atmospheric perspective In Part 2 of the Upper Elementary: Grades 4-6 Art Project, the students started off by learning about the ODI Strategy (observe, describe, interpret) to read Hiroshige’s woodblock prints. With these prints, the students learned how to respond to art and about the techniques that artists use to create perspective and illusion of depth (e.g. utilize scales details, space, overlap, value). The students t...hen used principle design elements to create their own landscape, incorporating organisms that live at the base of Manoa Falls. The Geometry Cabinet includes six drawers of wooden insets in different shapes. The Second Drawer includes a square and rectangles with decreasing bases. The child mixes up the shapes and finds its match on cards that either have the figures that are filled in completely or with just an outline. Montessori Community School’s Tips for Parents of Young Children Tip 8: Teach your child the mechanics of doing an activity.... If you want your older child to sweep the kitchen, take the broom and demonstrate the action. Show your child what level of cleanliness you expect, what to do with the rubbish, and where to replace the broom and dustpan. Demonstrate the entire sequence. With younger children, their goal will not be to clean the floor, but to copy your actions and perfect their movements. If they are absorbed in the activity and working purposefully, avoid distracting them. They learned to use basic shapes to compose figures with dynamic gestures. Yesterday, our kindergartners commemorated completing the capstone year of their three-year cycle in the Preschool & Kindergarten Program with their annual Kindergarten Luncheon.
