When Yolanda Mori of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) attended One Young World Summit in 2016 during the Pacific Islands Leadership Program, she did not... know this was the start of a career in advocacy and activism for climate change. Since this experience, and being a part of PILP, I have taken on the role of being an advocate and public speaker, she said. Since she attended the program, Yolanda moved on to start her own youth NGO called Island Pride (Promoting Resilience, Involvement, Development and Education) in 2017. We work with high school students to empower youth through activities that build both our physical and social resilience as Micronesians" she explains. Some of the activities include, our Girls CAN Camp, Last Straw Campaign, island clean-ups, or Youth Speak Up and Youth Takeover Legislature days. Yolanda is convinced that everyone walks out of PILP a better and more confident version of themselves. Yolanda currently serves as the FSM President's Advocate on Climate Change. #ewc_leadership #pilpspotlight East-West Center

Happy #ThrowbackThursday !! Can anyone identify this former #CPIS student? It’s none other than Minister of State for the Republic of Palau, Faustina K. Rehuhe...r-Marugg. Minister Rehuher-Marugg has established herself in the region as a strong proponent of cultural preservation and promotion. She is a member of the Palau National Commission on UNESCO as chair of the Cultural Committee. The lucky students of the 2019 Palau Field School had the opportunity to meet her as she made the time in her busy schedule to meet the students and speak at some of their activities. Thank you for all the work you continue to do for the region, Minister! #CPIS70 #MakingWaves2020 #ThrowBackThursday #CPISTBT
