You may be actively perpetuating hike without even knowing it! Hike does not only exist in the realm of academia - it's used throughout all teaching environments. Performance-based assessment may sound foreign outside of the educational field but it is ever-present in our daily lives. That hula performance that your keiki had is a hike. Using the cooking recipe that your grandma taught you, that is a hike. Our kpuna understood ma ka hana ka ike - that you learn ...by doing and you prove what you've learned by demonstrating. That's why Mana Maoli aims to provide the tools and opportunities for youth to learn by doing - from year-long classes, to mentorships & internships with real-world professionals, to mobile recording sessions, to college & career services, to school visits by musicians & experts of the Creative Industries.
