LOOKING FOR OLD PHOTOS We are almost finished with the documentary Our Makawao an amazing story of Makawao as told by it’s kupuna (elders) and others, and produced by the skilled and award-winning documentarian Matt Yamashita from Molokai. One of Makawao’s unique qualities, in the early days, was the diversity of ethnicities which we hope to accurately depict.... We are looking for old photos from the 40’s, 50’s, & 60’s - candid shots of the town and area. Do you have any of the following: Old street scenes of Makawao Candid shots of children of all ethnicities playing. Horses tied up to the hitching posts in Makawao Early shots of stores - exteriors and interiors Kitada’s, Iwaishi, Tanizaki Store, and Komoda’s, The movie theatre outside and inside + Jimmy Brown the ticket taker Photos depicting Filipinos in Makawao Photos depicting Chinese in Makawao and Chinese married to Hawaiians Do you have any of these? Makawao History Museum will close its physical location. Aloha Ohana, Due to the current situation in these times, we regret to announce that the Makawao History Museum located on 3643 Baldwin Avenue will not be re-opening. The Museum’s board decided to take this time to step back and reorganize while we continue to maintain our nonprofit status. ... The Makawao History Museum continues to stand by its mission to promote the history of upcountry Maui.
