About 1 in 100 students get a Blackbelt at our school. Many will make it to red/black belt, but after that, half will quit before facing Part 1 or after attempting it. The Pt. 1 Taekwondo Endurance Test is a right of passage. The results rest entirely on the student. It is a life changing experience for those who are brave enough to put on their belt, step on the mats and battle with the voices in their head telling them to give up...you can’t do it. Congrats to Randi and Ziah for passing Pt.1 of their endurance test!

Lyubomirsky...also found that in people doing more acts of kindness that the genes that trigger inflammation were turned down more than in people who don't. She said in upcoming studies she's found more antiviral genes in people who did acts of kindness.

A TRUE EPIDEMIC IN ALL AREAS OF LEARNING. We created a Zero Tolerance rule, we implemented in December 2019 with our blackbelts and staff. We implemented the zero tolerance rule in an effort to increase communication between blackbelts and Kwanjamnim as well as students. The policy is simple, Any grievance or concern by students/parentsincluding blackbelts and staff themselvesthat could effect the dojang must be brought immediately to the Kwanjanims’ attention in order to ...resolve any potential grievances. Our blackbelts have been informed how important this rule is and the ramifications should they breach this protocol. This protocol is designed to prevent hateful speech and behaviors such as triangulation between parents, students and/or Sabumnims. Whether it’s bullying, entitlement or bribing, it’s important to realize the impact of parental behaviors toward teachers, coaches, on the mind of their child. Once the teacher becomes dinner time stink talk in front of their child, our time as instructors begins to expire. We’ve lived through this enough times to know that if parents choose resentment/triangulation toward us, instead of communicating, the students performance and accountability will begin to deteriorate. Humility, integrity, courtesybasically all tenets of Taekwondobegin to disappear until it’s too late to fix the problem. When this happens, it’s time to part ways for the sake of the child. It’s very unfortunate to remove a child from our school, but a child caught between a parents resentment with a teacher must eventually choose a side to avoid internal conflict. A child in this position loses more than a school, they lose vital communication skills, learning skills, self empowerment and more. In short, it’s a horrible psychological train wreck to endow a young mind with. They have learned by observable behavior that instead of communicating they should complain and hold resentments. What manifested as an opportunity to communicate and grow becomes a lesson in holding anger inside of us.

The most important thing we can teach a kid is how to lose. Kids who don’t know how to lose or failmaturely have a tough time in the workplace as adults and as partners in relationships. Allow your kid to have a crappy day.
