April is Stress Awareness Month, a time for us to be more mindful of how to reduce stress in our lives. Not surprisingly, the cumulative stress of the pandemic has impacted our collective mental health, with many more residents reporting symptoms such as anxiety, depression and feeling overwhelmed. The Hawaii State Department of Health has expanded its Hawaii CARES service to connect those seeking stress reduction and mental health resources with local resources. To access this service, visit https://hicares.hawaii.gov/ or call toll-free at 1-800-753-6879. #WellnessWednesday #StressAwareness #HawaiiCARES #MentalHealthAwareness

Are you a tea drinker? It was found in a study that people who consumed tea regularly also tend to have more nutrient-rich dietary habits. Unsweetened iced tea is an alternative to sugar-filled beverages and provides variety aside from plain water. This might be a healthy swap to make at a restaurant, which often have this option, or at least gives you an opportunity to add a specific amount of sugar or sweetener to your drink. If you are living with kidney disease, there ar...e other considerations to take into account like phosphorus, potassium, and oxalate content, which can depend on your tea source. Before choosing to add tea into your eating and drinking pattern it’s important to understand your diet as a whole, so speak with your health care professional or Registered Dietitian. #FoodieFriday #TeaDrinker #TeaTime #HealthyDiet #HealthyHabits #kidneydiet

If you are Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander, you may be at an increased risk for kidney disease. Minority populations have much higher rates of high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and heart disease, all of which increase the risk for kidney disease. This National Minority Health Month serves as an important reminder to know your risk factors, assess your lifestyle, and get tested for kidney disease if appropriate. #MinorityHealthMonth #NationalMinorityHealthMonth #MinorityHealth #CKD #KidneyDisease #MinuteforYourKidneys
