Since acquiring the plant more than 20 years ago, Kalaeloa has worked to deliver on its commitment to provide reliable power to O'ahu. Along the way, we became one of West Oahu’s long-term employers, as well as providing stable, high-paying jobs. Many of our team members have been with us for decades, and their longevity contributes to a true sense of ‘ohana within Kalaeloa and in the surrounding community.

A reliable, and sustainable energy future for the people of Hawaii is important to us. We deliver up to 208 megawatts of power to HECO's electrical grid every day, and also supply process steam energy to PAR Hawaii Refinery. We combust the fuel we receive from PAR to produce electricity and steam. This steam energy is sent back to PAR to supply half of the energy the refinery needs to power its operations.

Our plant provides a dependable source of baseload firm capacity and can support non-firm renewable generation resources when the sun does not shine and the wind does not blow.

For the past 30 years, our facility has held a proven record of delivering an Equivalent Availability Factor (EAF) in excess of 92%! What does this mean? EAF, a key performance indicator commonly used to analyze the effectiveness of power plants, is the fraction of a given operating period in which a generating unit is obtainable without any outages. Through our three synchronous turbine configurations, we are able to support island grid stability with frequency control.

Kalaeloa Partners generates more energy, while producing less emissions! We are the only plant in the U.S. combusting low sulfur fuel oil (LSFO) through the use of turbine technology. LSFO is desirable because it uses less energy during the refinement process. Not to mention, we offer the flexibility of generating power from diverse fuels like gas, diesel, and when available, a variety of renewable fuels.
