Kaiser High School Alumni (All Classes) 20.12.2021

From April Coloretti: Friends, family, near and far: I ask for your prayers for my brother-in-law, Boomy Lopes. ... He is one of 18 people in Hawaii in the ICU and on a ventilator. He’s been in a medically induced coma for close to two weeks. And he has been battling COVID-19 since January 4. Nobody knows how he got sick and how he is so sick. I ask each of you to uplift him in prayer. He’s a fighter! I can just hear him belly laughing, loud, filling up the room. #BOOMYSTRONG

From April Coloretti Update-Regarding Boomy Mahalo to everyone for all your prayers for my BIL, Boomy. ... He needs all of you to continue to uplift him in prayer. Today is Day 26 of his COVID-19 diagnosis and Day 17 of his medically induced coma. Here’s a throwback to December 29, what I like to call LLL, the three Lopes Brothers. We also ask for prayers for his outstanding team of doctors and medical staff at Queen’s. PS getting three Lopes brothers to stand still and stop talking and pose for a photo is quite a fun task! #BOOMYSTRONG

Update from April Coloretti (Boy Lopes) Wife Regarding Boys Brother Boomy Here is a photo of my BIL, Boomy, winning the Strongman Contest at the Punahou Carnival in 2014. ... As many of you know, 2014 was a heartbreaking year for the Lopes Ohana, as we had just lost Harlan in an accident. In true form, Boomy channeled his energy and yelled outthis one’s for Harlan! And then he won the day. Speaking of which...Boomy is no longer in a coma! He is still on a ventilator and still in ICU. It’s been 5 weeks since his COVID-19 diagnosis and 4 weeks in the ICU. Yesterday, on Harlan’s birthday, we had a family WebEx call. It was the first time he was awake and alert, and he could see all of us! He would point to his eye, then his heart, and then to the camera: I love you Words cannot even express the tears that we all shed. He could not speak due to the ventilator in his tracheostomy. And yet, his personality was all there. It was nothing short of a miracle, and we all know his Angel @helllboi had something to do with it. Please keep your prayers for healing for Boomy. He is not out of critical care yet, and he needs to gain strength in his lungs to get off the ventilator. The entire extended Lopes Ohana thanks you for your continued prayers, positive energy, love, and aloha. #boomystrong

It is with a heavy heart and disappointment that i share this message to all KHS Alums. The graduation ceremony will NOT be held on the KHS home field. Thank you everyone for sharing, signing and supporting the Kaiser High School, Class of 2021 in their fight to have graduation at their home school. Despite missing out on the experiences that make high school memorable including homecomings, both proms and senior luau to name a few, it is clear that Mr. Garrett Hatakenaka... (their class advisor), and Principal Justin Mew and the graduation committee of Kaiser High School do not truly care about the wishes of their students, especially their seniors. I am so proud of my brother and his classmates for what they have accomplished. They presented a comprehensive & detailed 82-page proposal in the mere 3 days they were allowed to request holding the Kaiser Class of 2021 graduation ceremony on their home field, submitted a petition with over 1000 signatures supporting them (including a majority of the senior class), meeting with the administration and graduation committee via zoom (with only being given an hour to prepare). The Kaiser High School mission statement: to provide a holistic education that enables students to strive for excellence, communicate effectively & be caring and open-minded members of our local and global communities is not a standard the administration chooses to guide the students by. These administrators are supposed to care about the population they have been entrusted with, their students. I work in healthcare and I care so deeply about each and everyone of my patients. It’s hard to believe that Kaiser High School does not follow that same standard when presented when students are fighting for something they believe in. When the students asked to consider Kaiser as a venue, the administration was untruthful to them and their voices were silenced. That has disappointed me in so many ways. I am so genuinely ashamed to say that this was the Kaiser High School I graduated from. Shame on Mr. Garrett Hatakenaka (their class advisor), and Principal Justin Mew and the graduation committee of Kaiser High School for not practicing what they preach. See more

Just learned we lost another Kaiser Coug too young to go. RIP Nicole "Nano" Gokan CO'82. During high school she was a cheerleader, had so much spunk and was always joyful. In her adult life she was a loving mother to son Rory. #RIPNano

Dear Fellow KHS Alumni, The KHS graduating Class of 2021 is seeking support for their petition to allow their graduation ceremony be traditionally held at our very own Kaiser Stadium. Currently, it is scheduled at the Aloha Stadium with only the students on the field and with one car of guests watching on screens from their cars. If you'd like to support the Class of 2021's wishes, please feel free to click on the link and sign the student petition! Mahalo! https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSdbTBPyko9XIYQ88/viewform
