Important information for veterans, their family members and friends from the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (also known as Punchbowl Cemetery). Sent: Thursday, March 19, 2020 4:04 PM Subject: National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific-Military Honors and Service Cancelations... Good Afternoon All, In light of concerns regarding the community spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), we have made the difficult decision to suspend committal services until the CDC and local health officials lift restrictions on public gatherings. We can do a direct interment without a committal service. Your family may witness ONLY this interment upon request. However this is limited to IMMEDIATE family members only and no more than ten (10) witnesses. If the family chooses to witness, they may contact us at a later date, once restrictions have been lifted, to schedule for a Memorial Service. Another option is to postpone the interment and service to a later date. What this means is that there will be no military honors or committal service for any services starting March 23rd thru April 3 or unless directed otherwise by VA NCA. If your family is going to witness, they will meet our cemetery representative at the service time (NOT 30 min prior) at the gravesite. If your family chooses to not attend, then the urn will need to be dropped off at the Administration Building. There will be a door bell on the door or they may knock on the door and someone will be out to greet them. The FH or NOK may also call the main line 808-532-3720 and someone will be out to greet them. In addition, The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific Public Information Center and Administrative Office will be closed to the Public, however the staff will be at work. The Cemetery will be open for visitation at this time. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we get through these challenging times. We will also keep everyone informed of any changes after April 3rd if it is necessary to continue these restrictions. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
