Repost from @food.and.bev This is our friend Jack. Jack is one of over 65 million people who have epilepsy worldwide. On this #purpleday we are thinking about Jack and all of the families that support loved ones suffering from this very common and challenging disease. We love Jack... be more like Jack! #epilepsyawareness :... 3.4 MILLION: Number of people in the United States who have epilepsy. 470,000: Number of children in the United States who have epilepsy. 1 IN 26 people in the United States will develop epilepsy at some point in their lifetime. BETWEEN 4 AND 10 OUT OF 1,000: Number of people on earth who live with active seizures at any one time. 150,000: Number of new cases of epilepsy in the United States each year ONE-THIRD: Number of people with epilepsy who live with uncontrollable seizures because no available treatment works for them. 6 OUT OF 10: Number of people with epilepsy where the cause is unknown. . . . #epilepsyfighters #epilepsyawarenessmonth #purpleday2021 #epilepsysucks #purpleday #epilepsymom #epilepsyfamily #epilepsysupport #epilepsywarior #epilepsysociety #epilepsystrong #fuckepilepsy #epilepsy

Life would just not be the same without the good work of dedicated, competent, and reliable student interns. We lucked out this school year and would like to send out huge purple hugs to our four student interns from the University of Hawaii. They came to EFH not knowing much about epilepsy or seizures. Since joining us they’ve immersed themselves in learning more about epilepsy to increase education and support for others who are challenged by seizures. They’ve all been Sei...zure First Aid Certified and are responsible for most of our recent social media and digital communication. They each were gracious to share a photo of themselves for Purple Day or Epilepsy Awareness Day. Their photos give a small glimpse of what they’re passionate about or makes them smile. #purpleday #purpleday2021 #epilepsyawareness #epilepsyhawaii #epilepsy808 #ialohasomeonelivingwithepilepsy #studentinterns #futuresocialworkers #myronbthompsonschoolofsocialwork

Myth: Flashing Lights can cause seizures for someone with epilepsy Fact: Only 3% of people with epilepsy have photosensitive epilepsy. Photosensitive epilepsy is more common in children and adolescents. It becomes less frequent with age, with fewer cases in the mid-’20s. Triggers are not only from electronics and strobing lights but also from natural light sources like sunlight shimmering off water or flickering through trees or blinds. ... #WisdomWednesdays #EpilepsyHawaii #EpilepsyAwareness #EpilepsyEquity #Epilepsy808

Repost from @hipacneuro Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience Celebrates Purple Day! What is Purple Day?... March 26 - Supporting Epilepsy Around the World Purple Day is an international grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide. On March 26th annually, people around the world are invited to wear purple and host events in support of epilepsy awareness. * 1 in 26 people in the US will develop epilepsy in their lifetime. * Epilepsy is a neurological disease that causes recurrent seizures. * 1 in 10 will experience a seizure. * Every person's brain has the potential to seize. * 14,000 people live with active epilepsy in Hawaii * It's important to be seen by a neurologist or epileptologist in the treatment of epilepsy. * 2,000 children live with active epilepsy in Hawaii * Timely treatment for seizures will decrease many other risks like injuries, struggles in school, and relating to people who do not understand seizures or epilepsy. * 150,000 new cases of epilepsy in the US each year * Epilepsy doesn't discriminate. * 1/3 of people with epilepsy live with uncontrolled seizures * Research will accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives. To schedule your appointment with a neurologist and epileptologist, call or text our office at 808-261-4476 or email us at [email protected].
