Maui is full of picturesque places to pop the question, but some spots are better than others when 1) you want your proposal photographed and 2) you don't want your sweetie to know a photographer is there until after the proposal. First things first, the spot should be relatively easy to navigate to with a decent amount of parking. We don't want you getting lost on the way there because it would be really hard to call your photographer for directions when y...ou're trying to maintain a surprise. We also don't want you to be late because you're looking for parking. Most people want a proposal spot that is intimate, so we think about how crowded the location tends to be. This doesn't mean we guarantee an empty beach, but we do steer away from beaches that we know are usually more crowded, like the ones directly in front of resorts. Our recommendations may change depending on whether it's a weekday or weekend (aim for a weekday if possible) or how busy the island is. We also look for a spot where the photographer can hide or be less noticeable. If there's no hiding spot, the next best thing is a long beach, where she can capture you from further away. We think about things like how likely it is to rain, the sunset, and which beaches are better for the time of day. Did you know that the proposal locations we recommend can change throughout the year? We are constantly evaluating how locations are working because places in nature, like our favorite beaches, don't stay the same. Beaches get busier. Sand shifts. Tides and swells can make some beaches very narrow or inaccessible. A beach closed the other day because the parking lot got flooded. Beware of doing research for Maui proposal spots online bec...ause you never know how outdated information can be. Part of our service includes location scouting because even if a beach is rated one of the best online, that doesn't necessarily mean it works well for a proposal that needs to be photographed discreetly. (Sometimes if a beach is claiming to be the best, it's a sign NOT to go there because it will be crowded.)
